Blacksburg metro area recognized for job growth NewGeography.com has recognized the Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford metro area as the No. 29 Best City for Job Growth in the U.S.; No. 2 in Virginia.  Employment in Montgomery County has jumped 9.2 percent since 2010, dropping the unemployment rate from 8.6 percent to 6.5 percent.  Companies expanding in Falling Branch Corporate Park and the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center are contributing significantly to economic growth in the community.

Forbes Names the New River Valley as 5th Best Small City for Jobs  The Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford Metropolitan Statistical Area (aka New River Valley) has been named to Forbes' list of the ten "Best Small Cities for Jobs."  Our metro ranked 5th nationally against 242 MSAs with less than 150,000 jobs.  According to Forbes.com, rankings were based on recent growth trends, mid-term growth, long-term growth and regional momentum. These indicators were assessed using employment data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics from November 2000 through January 2012.  
 

Blacksburg MSA named a Top Metro for second consecutive year.  For the second consecutive year, Site Selection Magazine has named the Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) a “Top Metro by Number of Projects.” Within the population category of 200,000 or less, the metro tied 4th nationally for the most new or expanding corporate facility announcements in 2011.  >Read more
